2013 Penguin Run

2013 Route Description

1.5K Youth Run Route:

The 1.5K Youth Run is going off road this year, with a distinctly cross country feel!  The wide open soccer field of the Lion’s Den in Enfield provides runners lots of distance to sort out the pack before entering the trails that circle the property.  Two loops of the course is 1.5K, provide spectators with a few looks at the future of Nova Scotia running!

5 KM Route:

The flat and fast 5KM route provides a great option for the beginner runner looking to complete their first race, the seasoned veteran running down points on the Timex Race series, and everyone in between!

Leaving the Lion’s Den, runners will head south, towards the 2012 Penguin Run start line.  The route continues on the Horne Settlement Rd, with a turnaround near Tower View Rd.  The finishing km is a downhill straightaway that should provide some great finishes!

Half Marathon Route:

The first 2.5KM is shared with the 5KM runners.  The 5KM runners turn before the first significant climb of the half marathon, making the half runners briefly wish they were running the shorter distance.  However, the thought of getting this elevation back so close to the finish will help every runner push up the hill!  The route turn left on Renfrew Rd, and continues along the rolling route toward Monte Vista Rd, which leads to the home Nova Scotia’s most famous Penguin of the Pittsburgh variety: Sidney!  You’ll turn before the gates of Monte Vista, and retrace your steps to the Lion’s Den.  The last four KM are mostly downhill!
